Weston Turville recreation ground has just had (another) big upgrade to its playground. Just outside of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire there’s now plenty of good equipment, including some accessible equipment. If you’ve been to the playground before you’ll recognise some of the equipment. Rather than just ripping everything out they’ve made some additions and improved the ground around what was already there.
Whilst most of the playground is grass, there’s safety surfacing in all of the high use areas so mud shouldn’t be too much of an issue here. It’s a fully enclosed playground with seating available.
There is some equipment for younger children, but overall the playground at Weston Turville Recreation Ground is more suited to older kids / early teens. Personally, I think that’s a good thing. A lot of the recent refurbs have decreased their target age so there’s nothing left for older children who still want to play. I’m specifically thinking Aston Clinton Hub and the Helicopter Playground in Halton.

- Swings – toddler swings, nest, family swing and normal swings
- Toddler rockers and themed see-saw
- Spinning see-saw rocker for older children
- Small play-frame and slide for younger children
- Tractor themed play-frame with mini climbing wall, slide and fireman’s pole
- Large (aka massive) slide
- Play-frame for older children with scramble net, balance beams and slide
- Double zip wire
A little note about the zip wire
This is quite a high zip wire, even towards the end, and it’s got a hell of a recoil on it! Getting onto the starting platform was quite tricky for several kids, more so if it’s damp. You’re best doing it at a bit of a run! I didn’t push Smallest Child at all as I’d seen how high it swings at the end and I didn’t want her to fall off. Quite a few kids were swinging a fully 90 degrees at the end! You have been warned.
What else is on site?
There’s a couple of tennis courts that are free to use and plenty of green space to play in. Once the park was finished they added in a skate park and multi-sports pitch as well. The playground is right behind Weston Turville Village Hall (which is available to hire). There are football pitches but these are leased by a local club.

This is a decent little playground for older children – realistically I’d say over 4’s will get the most out of playing here. There are much better playgrounds for those that are younger. Four seems like a slightly random age, but Smallest Child was 4 the first time we went. She enjoyed it, but struggled to physically get around some areas. Hopefully the little patches of play surface will keep the worst of the mud away.
It’s an excellent playground and recreation space for older children.

There’s plenty of decent playgrounds around Aylesbury, Halton has the helicopter park and the pirate playground. Wendover Woods, College Lake and Tring Park are all nearby for family walks.
