Last year my feed had review after review of Land of Lights at Gulliver’s Land Milton Keynes and it looked amazing. We already had stuff planned but it was top of my list of places to visit this year instead.
Land of Lights South is actually in the Gulliver’s dino and farm park part of Gulliver’s Land Milton Keynes. We’ve never been there during the day so we might have to go back and check it out some time.
How long does it take to do the Land of Lights Milton Keynes?
The trail at the Land of Lights in Milton Keynes (there is both a North and South version BTW) is a massive 1 mile long. I checked online before we went and the Land of Lights website suggests it will take you an hour and a half to do. It took us almost exactly an hour and a half to do the full trail, but we didn’t stop for the mini-market or any food stalls.
There’s a very good reason why our time perfectly matched the advertised one; you’re constantly swept along with the crowd. It’s actually the one down-side of the trail. The paths are quite narrow along the majority of the route and it’s very busy, so you don’t really get chance to alter your pace in any way.
Dino land
As I said the Land of Lights Milton Keynes is set out in Gulliver’s dino and farm park and you start off in the dinosaur part of the park. Even at night this looks cool! All of the giant light sculptures are surrounded by equally giant actual dinosaurs. It looks brilliant.

You start off on a walkway above all the lanterns, and then you go down to ground level to explore more. And some of them even move!!

Stories zone
Next up is the stories zone. You start off with fairy tales but there’s tons of other characters to see; Elmer, Wind in the Willows, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and loads more. Honestly, I took so many photos!

To describe them as lanterns almost seems a bit unfair really. These things are massive. Some of them are quite literally houses!!

The never ending story
Hubby kept saying that we were nearly at the end, only for there to be a whole other section just around the corner. It did seem to go on forever (but in a good way). And all of them are just stunning. I mean, have a look at this dragon;

And then there’s entire dioramas for the snow queen, the little mermaid and more.

Our Land of Lights Milton Keynes Review
Almost every review of Land of Lights Milton Keynes that I have seen has been overwhelmingly positive. I was really looking forward to going, and it didn’t disappoint. The sheer number of lights here is incredible. And it really does go on for ages. If you’ve got small ones with you then that might be a problem, I can see them getting tired. There did seem to be a lot of young kids there, more than at any other light trail we have been to. I imagine that’s because it is at Gulliver’s Land, but actually the boys loved it!
This review of Land of Lights Milton Keynes is based on our experiences at the time of our visit. Things can change over time, including the facilities available. Hi, I’m Vicky. My husband and I live in Aylesbury with our three children; a 14 year old son, an 12 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. I (mostly) love spending time together as a family. We visit all kinds of places and we’re quite happy to drive a fair distance for a decent day out. A few years ago I decided to set up Free Time with the Kids as a way to share our experiences of these family days out.
You’ll find the essential information you need to know before your visit that can be surprisingly hard to find out. Where do I park? How much will it cost me to get in? Are there any discounts available? Are there loos? Can I take a picnic or get food? My aim is to be your go-to guide for all your free and cheap family days out across Bucks, Beds, Oxon, Herts & slightly beyond. I really hope you find the reviews helpful.
