There’s yet another new playground on Berryfields in Aylesbury and it’s called Roman Park Play Area. It’s going to part of a massive new recreational centre that’s slowly being built over the next 18 months or so. If things go to plan then it should all be open by some time in mid/late 2021. The plans for the wider Roman Park on Berryfields include a tennis court, all-weather pitch, BMX track, cycleway and outdoor gym. There’s also going to be a community orchard, children’s show garden, wilderness area and viewing mound. It all sounds lovely and I cannot wait for it to be open.
The first part of this project is the Roman Park play area, which is now open. We went down to have a look around. It’s not a huge park, but if you’re in Aylesbury it’s a nice change from your local park. My favourite bit is the ship-shape(d) frame. In terms of getting onto it, it’s designed for slightly older children but it’s awesome. There’s loads of space on deck for a group of kids to play, and room underneath too.
There’s also a second frame and slide, a see-saw, lots of swings, zip line and even a musical instrument. There’s a seating bench within the park. It’s an all grass park, so not great in this muddy weather but we’ll be back when it dries up a bit.
Parking / How to get there
There’s on-street parking but please be considerate of residents when parking.
Address – it’s on the corner of Sir Henry Lee Crescent and Excalibur Road in Aylesbury. HP18 0WJ
Currently none nearby. That might change when the full Roman Park is open. There is a train station nearby.
Our Roman Park Play Area review
It’s not huge but it’s got some decent kit. It’s not really worth travelling for but if you’re local it’s another one to add to the list. It will be interesting to see how it develops with the rest of the site. Keep an eye out on the parish council’s website for more updates.
