Yanworth, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL54 3LJ
We came here completely by accident and I wish we’d got there earlier in the day because I would have loved to have been able to spend more time here.
Inside the modern building on the left of this photo they have some a beautiful mosaic as well as the hypocaust system and a bath house. Within the wider grounds there is a shrine to a water goddess and a small museum as well as the walls from the rest of the villa. There are lots of information boards dotted around telling you what you’re looking at. Look out for the Roman Snails as well. THEY ARE HUGE. Not a fan of snails in the slightest but their size was impressive. Middle child loved hunting for them and they’re really not that hard to spot. (Important note, they are a protected species so please don’t touch them).
We didn’t get to explore the full site because we were limited for time but they also have woodland walks you can do.
It was a fascinating place and I would like to go back and have a better look around.
