Oxford Rd, Stone, Aylesbury, HP17 8PB
I’ve driven past this place a million times and seen glimpses of it so I thought I’d take a proper look today with all 3 kids.
Slight issue when we got there – the car park was locked! It’s (apparently) only for use by those hiring out the hall and it’s locked the rest of the time. If you did park in there when it’s open, there’s a risk you’ll be locked in if they finish at the hall! We ended up parking on Bishopstone Road instead.
They are currently doing some improvements to the park so there is a bit of building work going on. They’ve put some new benches in and they’re re-doing some paths.
There is a large green space with some pitches on it and to the side there’s a basketball hoop. There’s also the jubilee hall which looks practically fortified and there’s CCTV everywhere so I’m guessing there’s been some issues in the past. We didn’t see any evidence of that though.
There is a large playground area at the war memorial end of the park and it’s very cool. They’ve got two play frames for different ages, swings, a zip wire, crawl tunnel and fitness trail amongst other things. I think it’s only a few years old, but the equipment looks well maintained.
They did have a swarm of wasps nesting in the ground near the zip wire. They’ve tried (badly) to cordon it off but people have destroyed that so it’s not until you see the wasps all on the ground you realise why there are so many around the park.
The kids loved the park and it has a really good play frame for all ages. We’ll definitely be back (once the wasps are gone)
Entry – free
Parking – Problematic – don’t park in the on-site car park even if it’s unlocked as it might not be for long. You’ll have to park on the road or I noticed some people had parked on Round Hill.
Food – picnics welcome. There’s a co-op across the road.
Toilets – none on site
Rating – 4 / 5
