The Christmas Grotto at Penns Flowers is a small winter wonderland walk through on the Buckinghamshire / Oxfordshire border in aid of Rennie Grove Hospice Care. It’s been going for years now and they’ve raised loads of money for them which is amazing. It’s quite different from a lot of winter wonderland walk throughs that you normally go to. It’s nothing like the one at Dobbies in Wendover, but that is closed now so it doesn’t matter.
It’s basically LOADS of Christmas decorations, animals, characters, Santas and models all packed into a massive shed. I swear this is what my mother would absolutely love to be able to achieve one day.
There’s even a giant polar bear in there. All of the models are at quite a low height so Smallest Child was able to see everything. She loved it. Particularly running around spotting things that caught her eye and then running back to tell me about them.
The walk through is quite small. Even though I knew it was small, it was actually smaller than I was expecting. It’s 70 foot long and you go up and down both sides so it’s not tiny either. All told, we were at the Christmas Grotto at Penns Flowers for about ten minutes or so.
What is the Christmas Grotto at Penns Flowers suitable for?
Middle Child is 9 and I’d say he’s very much the top end of who would find it interesting. But then that’s probably true for a lot of winter wonderlands to be honest!
When it is open?
The Christmas Grotto at Penns Flowers is open from the 27th November until the 24th December. Their opening hours are 9-5 (10-4 Sundays) but they’re closed on Wednesdays. Santa is only in the grotto on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 – 4pm.

Admission is free but all donations to the Rennie Grove are very gratefully accepted. You can make a donation here.
