Odds Farm Park Review

We visited Odds Farm Park as a birthday treat for Smallest Child, but of course I had to review it whilst we were there! I’ve driven past this place dozens of times when visiting Cliveden, but I was never sure if it was good value for money or not. In my mind it was always up there with Willows Activity Farm in terms of price. Actually it’s not…

I compared the prices of several local open farms on the same day in the summer holidays. All prices quoted are for two adults and two children; Odds farm – £67.80, Willows Activity Farm – £100, Hogshaw Farm (formerly Green Dragon Eco Farm) – £41.80, Thrift Farm – £36, Mead Open Farm – £63.80. So it’s mid price-range really.

The animals

Odds Farm Park has actually got quite a lot of animals for you to see, although not necessarily a huge range. There’s pigs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, donkeys, cows and ponies. I’ve always been surprised that some farms (I’m particularly talking about Mead Open Farm and Willows here) have lots of facilities but a surprising lack of animals for a farm!

If the weather is a bit questionable then there is an indoor barn where you can see and stroke some of the animals. This is also where the rabbits and guinea pigs are. Turns out this is the only place you’re supposed to feed the animals as well. The ones out in the paddocks behind two fences aren’t supposed to be fed. We didn’t know this until after we’d got through two bags of feed. Merrily walking back we spotted one sign saying they’re not hungry, just greedy. Oops. But that was the only sign we saw.

The playgrounds / sand & water play area

As you are queuing to get in you cannot hep but see the adventure playground which is a decent one, there’s also some additional equipment, including a small sand pit behind it. Free go-karts are next door. They’re a little bit creaky but do their job.

The sand & water play area is not the main water play area BTW (I initially thought it was) but it’s good fun. It’s remarkably similar to the one at Mead Open Farm. My lot spent an hour in this bit alone. In fact I had to drag them out in the end, pointing out that I hadn’t paid all that money for them to play in water and sand. We could have gone to Stanwick lakes for free to do that!

Right at the back there’s also an adventure fort. This is cool and mostly good for kids of all ages, but there’s one fireman’s pole that Smallest Child decided she could do. Except there’s a huge gap between the edge and the pole, and a massive drop to the floor. Luckily I spotted what she was planning before she actually launched herself off the side!

There’s other bits of outdoor play equipment dotted around as well; a fitness trail, mini-rovers, another playground for younger kids and other games. Next to the car park is the mini golf course, there is an additional charge for this though. We were supposed to have a go but I totally forgot about it and we ran out of time. Doh!

H2Odds

I think this is a fairly new addition but it’s really cool. Odds Farm has a very similar splash park set up to Willows Activity Farm (read my review here) and it is good. Again, we spent a long time here, BUT it is slippy as hell and could do with a bit of a scrub. I saw 6 / 7 kids slip over on slimy bits, including Middle Child.

My favourite (sorry I mean the kids’ favourite) bit is this platform you rock from side to side. When you do it shoots water out of a rock. Ideally into your sibling’s face apparently.

The soft play barn

I had an incredible sense of deja vu here. If you look at my review of almost any open farm you’ll find the same slide set-up they have at Odds Farm Park, with the same small play frame set up next to it. It’s got a four lane bumpy slide and two drop slides (red & blue). Sound familiar??

It’s tiny in here so don’t expect to spend long in here and if it starts raining expect it to get PACKED pretty quickly. These two photos really do show you everything that’s available for older kids. There’s a small play frame for toddlers too.

Our Odds Farm Park Review

Overall I liked Odds Farm Park, but it is a bit same-y. That said, if I’d been to the other open farms first I might be saying it about them instead. This place has the focus on (but not range of) animals Hogshaw has, the sand play area and elements of Mead Open Farm’s soft play (but it doesn’t have anywhere near the same facilities) and Willows’ splash pad. Overall they don’t have one element that makes it stand-out from other open farms.

It has good facilities, there’s plenty to do here and you can easily spend the whole day here. The soft play was disappointingly small, but they put on other indoor activities on as well which is nice. Overall I think they’ve got the price point right for the facilities that they offer. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with odds Farm Park. It’s a good day out, I just think there’s little to distinguish it from other farms nearby.

Hi, I’m Vicky. My husband and I live in Aylesbury with our three children; a 14 year old son, an 12 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. I (mostly) love spending time together as a family. We visit all kinds of places and we’re quite happy to drive a fair distance for a decent day out. A few years ago I decided to set up Free Time with the Kids as a way to share our experiences of these family days out.

You’ll find the essential information you need to know before your visit that can be surprisingly hard to find out. Where do I park? How much will it cost me to get in? Are there any discounts available? Are there loos? Can I take a picnic or get food? My aim is to be your go-to guide for all your free and cheap family days out across Bucks, Beds, Oxon, Herts & slightly beyond. I really hope you find the reviews helpful.
